Millions of Americans celebrated Spirit Day on October 20 by 'going purple' to stand up against bullying and send a message to LGBT youth that it's okay to be who you are.

Latin American media and LGBT organizations united to create a transnational movement to commemorate Spirit Day.

Spirit Day was celebrated October 20, and on that day, we saw numerous businesses, celebrities, denominations, and even the White House go purple to show support for LGBT youth and safe schools. However, many worshipping communities held their commemoration until they gathered for weekend services. Now that “Spirit Weekend” is over, we offer you a couple of examples of what congregations did to address bullying in worship.

California State University Long Beach's GSA took their Spirit Day celebration a step further, yesterday, with some eye catching public performance. CSULB GSA organizer and GLAAD Entertainment Intern Anthony Nget shares his experience of taking part and why it was so important for the whole campus to see them go purple.
