Profiling people who want their lives to be “proof” that such programs “work,” comes with the responsibility of profiling people who are still working through the harm that has been caused through such programs.

Today, The New York Times series TimesCast discusses GLAAD’s Where We Are on TV report, which last week announced the highest percentage ever of LGBT characters on primetime broadcast scripted series was found in this year’s fall TV lineup.

Last week, GLAAD and members of New York’s trans community met with editors and staff members at the New York Times for a very frank, off-the-record discussion about issues that uniquely affect trans people.

The front page of the Sunday Style section of the New York Times features 22-year old biblical scholar Matthew Vines. Matthew, who’s YouTube video explaining the biblical case for LGBT equality, spoke at a GLAAD sponsored event, “Being Gay is Not a Sin: A Conversation with Matthew Vines” at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. The event, and subsequent interview, detail Matthew’s coming out, rejection by his own congregation, and the video he created that has been viewed 350,000 times, are all included in the profile.

If the New York Times is the "paper of record" then it's right now missing a crucial part of that record. It became known that American hero Sally Ride, who passed away this week, had been in a relationship with a woman for more than a quarter-century.

On Saturday night at the 23rd GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco, Janet Mock, noted author, trans advocate and editor of People.com, joined GLAAD in calling for a meeting with staff members of The New York Times to discuss transgender issues.
