A vigil will be held tonight in Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood to honor the life and memory of Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman of color who was brutally attacked and killed last week.

NYC transgender woman dies after attack

Islan Nettles, a New York City transgender woman, has died after an attack on the early morning hours of August 17. Ms. Nettles was taken to Harlem Hospital for her injuries and, on Thursday, was taken off of life support and died.

Two gay men beaten in Chelsea neighborhood of NYC, Christine Quinn and community "appalled" by attacks

Early this morning two men holding hands outside a Chelsea movie theater were senselessly beaten and called antigay slurs. Both required hospitalization for injuries. One of the man's injuries were so brutal he required stitches on his face.
