GLAAD hosted a Google Hangout after a very busy and anxious month for LGBT and allied Catholics.
On the opening day of the World Meeting of Families, Catholic LGBT people and their families introduced themselves to the media and the wider world. GLAAD is working with Equally Blessed, who organized the pilgrimage of the LGBT families.
Around 60% of Catholics in America support marriage equality. Unfortunately, the Church hierarchy does not reflect churchgoers' attitudes. GLAAD and DignityUSA called on Pope Francis to join them in closing that gap.
The group of Sullivan High School parents, teachers, and students lobbying for a straight-only prom have couched their anti-LGBT position in religious language, stating "We want to make the public see that we love the homosexuals, but we don't think it's right nor should it be accepted." Many religious leaders, however, have rejected the group's claims that LGBT people are "wrong" and that they should have a straight-only prom.
