World's Largest Trans-Specific Conference in Philadelphia Today--June 2

Today marks the kick-off of the three-day long Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference (PTHC). With more than 2,000 people expected to attend, this 11th annual gathering represents the world’s largest trans-specific conference. According to its Web site, the conference offers “workshops and activities focused on the health and well-being of transgender people, communities and allies.”

GLAAD Mourns Seattle's Danny Vega

Over the past week, Seattle’s Southside, Filipino and LGBT communities have gathered to mourn the loss of Danny Vega, an openly gay Filipino American man who died on November 27 from injuries received during a brutal attack in which he was beaten and robbed while taking a walk in his Rainier Valley neighborhood on November 15. New Analysis Reveals Disproportionate Discrimination and Violence Against Latino/a Transgender People

Yesterday, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) released Injustice at Every Turn: A Look at Latino/a Respondents in the National Transgender Discrimination Survey, revealing that transgender Latino/a people face poverty, unemployment, homelessness, discrimination and violence at significantly higher rates than both the overall transgender population and the general population.
