Biographer Michael Schiavi speaks with GLAAD about Celluloid Activist, his biography of Vito Russo, one of GLAAD’s founders and a visionary advocate for LGBT equality.

This week, Salon.com teamed up with New America Media to run a series of coming out stories by LGBT youth of color and LGBT immigrant youth. Titled "Pariah Personals," the series is inspired by the recently released film "Pariah," a coming-of-age story about an African American teen named Alike, who is embracing her identity as a lesbian.

This week, Huffington Post Gay Voices featured a piece by Kylar Broadus, a transgender advocate, lawyer, board member of the National Black Justice Coalition, and founder of the Trans People of Color Coalition, reflecting on West Hollywood's 13th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance and discussing the disproportionate rates of violence and discrimination against transgender people of color, both locally and throughout the country.

Over the past week, Seattle’s Southside, Filipino and LGBT communities have gathered to mourn the loss of Danny Vega, an openly gay Filipino American man who died on November 27 from injuries received during a brutal attack in which he was beaten and robbed while taking a walk in his Rainier Valley neighborhood on November 15. He was 58 years old.

Yesterday, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) released Injustice at Every Turn: A Look at Latino/a Respondents in the National Transgender Discrimination Survey, revealing that transgender Latino/a people face poverty, unemployment, homelessness, discrimination and violence at significantly higher rates than both the overall transgender population and the general population.
