At Pepperdine University, administrators have refused to officially recognize the school's only LGBT club, Reach OUT. Members of the club have started a petition on Change.org in hopes of persuading university officials to reconsider this discriminatory policy.
In response to the recent hazing death of gay Florida A&M University (FAMU) drum major Robert Champion Jr., the school’s LGBT Pride Student Union wrote an op-ed in the Tallahassee Democrat about the lack of LGBT-inclusion on campus.
This fall Elmhurst became the first institute of higher education to include an admissions question about sexual orientation and gender identity, launching them into the public eye. The college has only good things to say after its first round of admissions with the new question.
Student athletes are stepping up to the plate, so to speak, to take a stand for LGBT equality. Recently, Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., became the first Athlete Ally Ambassador School in the Northwest Conference.
