Illinois House Committee approves ban on anti-gay "conversion therapy" on minors

Representative Kelly Cassidy of Illinois is sponsoring a bill that seeks to ban the practice of so-called "conversion therapy" or "ex-gay therapy" on minors. Last week, the bill—titled the Conversion Therapy Prohibition Act--was approved by the state's House Human Services Committee in a 9-6 vote.

The White House released a statement from President Barack Obama, praising Illinois for passing marriage equality. Obama, a former Illinois State legislator, expressed his appreciation to the Illinois lawmakers who passed the measure, as well as congratulated the LGBT citizens of Illinois who will now be granted marriage equality.
