Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)

As the United States celebrates and commemorates the strong men and women dedicated to serving our country on Memorial Day, LGB citizens serving in the military are faced with the conflict inherent in serving openly as LGB after the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” while fighting for a country that still refuses to acknowledge their relationships.

Considering that today is the day the U.S.

As the Supreme Court prepares to weigh in on the so-called "Defense of Marriage" Act (DOMA) and the anti-gay Proposition 8, polls continue to show the widespread support for marriage equality in the United States.

The Advocate published a Valentine's Day op-ed that featured a bi-national same-sex couple, one of 35,000 in the US, who constantly fear being ripped apart by DOMA.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced that it will review Edith Windsor's case challenging the so-called federal "Defense of Marriage" Act (DOMA), and an appeal to a lower court ruling on Proposition 8.

A continued Obama presidency presumably means the administration will continue not to defend the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" in courts of law. Presumably it will mean continued progress towards granting binational same-sex couples more protections against deportations.And President Obama's victory tonight signals to a nation of public figures that it's now truly politically "safe" to support LGBT Americans.
