This morning, GLAAD announced the nominees for the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards and many of this year's nominees included out characters of color telling important stories and reflecting the true diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

2013 TV plotlines that addressed real world LGBT issues

When scripted television turns to real-world issues faced by LGBT people for inspiration, they are also helping to educate viewers and foster greater understanding, which studies have shown translates to positive shifts in public opinion.
