Carla Hale, beloved Catholic school teacher fired for being gay, reaches settlement with former employer

In April, Carla Hale was fired from her job as a physical education teacher at Bishop Watterson High School, a private Catholic school in Columbus, Ohio for being gay. It now appears that Ms. Hale and the school have found a "mutually agreed to a resolution of their disagreements."

Bishop is asked to attend discussion panel on LGBT employees

In response to the Columbus Diocese refusal to reinstate Carla Hale as a physical education teacher at Bishop Watterson High School, Amanda Finelli of #halestormOhio and Glen Skeen of Pride @ Work Ohio have invited the bishop to attend a discussion panel on the topic of LGBT employees and faith-based workplaces.

Ohio Pro-LGBT Catholic uninvited to speak at graduation

Two months ago, Franklin County Commissioner in Ohio, John O'Grady, was given the honor of delivering the commencement speech at Bishop Ready High School. Just prior to the graduation ceremony, O'Grady was contacted by school officials to tell him he would no longer be needed for the commencement speech because of O'Grady's position as co-chairman of the Freedom to Marry initiative supporting marriage equality in the state of Ohio.

Fired Catholic school teacher, Carla Hale, files complaint with city of Columbus

On Tuesday, former Catholic school teacher, Carla Hale, who was fired from Bishop Watterson High School after being outed filed a complaint with the city of Columbus. In the complaint, she said her dismissal goes against the city's anti-discrimination ordinance. Hale has also filed a grievance through the local Catholic teachers union.
