How it works
The steps for donating are as follows:
- Text the word "PURPLE" to 45678 from your mobile phone.
- Reply "YES" to confirm your $5 donation.
- Thank you! $5 will be added to your cellular phone bill and go towards helping GLAAD, Egale Canada Human Rights Trust (ECHRT) and QMUNITY support LGBT youth!
Why this is important
Spirit Day Ambassador Brittany McMillan, a Canadian from Vancouver, BC, came up with the idea for Spirit Day as a way to show support for LGBT young people who might be targeted by bullies, and to remember those victims of bullying whose lives were lost to suicide. GLAAD has been the driving force behind Spirit Day’s success in the media since its inception two years ago. GLAAD has inspired the media to share Spirit Day’s message far and wide, with millions upon millions of people throughout North America. QMUNITY provides LGBTQ teens with a safe space and any resources they might need, and can be a lifeline for someone being bullied. Egale Canada Human Rights Trust (ECHRT) is Canada's largest LGBT organization and works to protect LGBTQ young people from bullying and harassment.
