MTV has been one of the biggest supporters of Spirit Day this year, spreading the message of tolerance. The network and tons of its top musical and entertainment icons have gone purple in a show of solidarity with its young LGBT fans, letting them know that they are not alone.
Spirit Day participants are wearing purple or going purple online today in a stand against bullying and show of support for LGBT young people. Spirit Day began in 2010 to commemorate young LGBT lives lost to suicide. Each year, GLAAD organizes hundreds of celebrities, media outlets, brands, landmarks, sports leagues, faith groups, school districts, colleges and universities to speak out for LGBT youth on Spirit Day.
