STATEMENT FROM GLAAD ON THE APPOINTMENT OF CHAD GRIFFIN AS THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN
Los Angeles, CA, March 2, 2012 – Today, Chad H. Griffin was appointed as the next President of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) by the organization’s Board of Directors.
“GLAAD congratulates HRC on naming Chad Griffin as the organization’s President,” said GLAAD’s Acting President Mike Thompson. “Chad has led LGBT families to new levels of visibility through his work at the American Foundation for Equal Rights. His commitment to all members of our community and proven track record of advancing LGBT issues are instrumental assets to our movement. We look forward to continue working with HRC and with Chad as partners in the march to equality.”
Griffin, a national communications and policy strategist, is a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the sole sponsor of the federal lawsuit to overturn Proposition 8. He is responsible for recruiting Theodore Olson and David Boies to successfully argue the case. Prop. 8 has now been ruled unconstitutional by two federal courts.
