In the wake of New Jersey and California barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, lawmakers in the states of Massachusetts and New York are considering similar legislation.

Veterans benefits for gay married couples still denied

Gay married couples are still barred from receiving veterans spousal benefits at this time despite the court ruling against the Defense of Marriage Act, according to a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs that was obtained Tuesday by the Washington Blade.

LGBT asylum seekers risk it all to be out

The estimated number of LGBT refugees and asylum seekers entering the United States each year is 4,000 and rising, said Max Niedzwiecki, leader of the LGBT Faith and Asylum Network, a national network dedicated to helping asylum seekers based on sexual orientation or gender identity. These numbers are estimates due to the sensitive nature of divulging one’s sexual orientation and the fact that no governmental agency in the United States tracks the issue.

Still, some asylum seekers are speaking out and making their cause known to the world.

Why an anti-LGBT extremist took a shine to Vladimir Putin

Pretty much everyone in the democratic world denounced [anti-LGBT laws], which ban the adoption of Russian-born children to gay couples or anyone living in a country where marriage equality exists; allow the police to detain for 14 days foreigners suspected of being gay or even pro-gay; and classify homosexual “propaganda” as pornography. The last bit’s so broadly written that it could apply to anyone preaching tolerance.
