Marriage Equality for Same-Sex Couples (February 2004)
Massachusetts's highest court ruled in November 2003 that the state's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, and allowed the state legislature 180 days to remedy the problem. The Supreme Judicial Court's 4-3 ruling was the culmination of a two year legal battle that started in 2001 when seven gay couples went to their city and town halls to obtain marriage licenses. They were all denied, which led them to sue the agency that administers the state's marriage laws, the Department of Public Health.

Hate Crimes
GLAAD works to provide the media resources for fair, accurate and non-sensational reporting and also works with the community's affected by these crimes to organize a united response.

Episcopal General Convention Coverage (August 2003)
The Episcopal Church confirmed openly gay The Rev. Canon V. Gene Robinson as bishop of New Hampshire today at their 74th General Convention in Minneapolis, Minn.

LGBT Cultural Visibility (July 2003)

In the footsteps of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's critical praise and ratings success, the NBC-owned Bravo cable network on Tuesday, July 29 debuted the reality dating show Boy Meets Boy.

James Dobson on Larry King Live (September 2003)
The Sept. 5 edition of Larry King Live featured the anti-gay Dr. James Dobson, whose hateful rhetoric went unchallenged.

Announcing Equality Project (August 2003)
GLAAD launched a year-long initiative to increase the number of papers that inclusively print same-sex union announcements.

MSNBC's Michael Savage (February-July 2003)
After eight years on syndicated radio, host Michael Savage was given a television show on the MSNBC network. GLAAD launched a public education campaign to call attention to Savage's hateful attacks on diverse Americans, leading a broad-based coalition that called on MSNBC, NBC News and "Savage Nation" sponsors to reconsider their decision to associate their brands with Savage's bigotry.

Power 105.1 FM New York (February 2003)
Power 105.1 FM in New York refused to stop using anti-gay rhetoric on-air during a popular morning drive-time show. After GLAAD's initial outreach to the station, the deejays burst into a spontaneous "fag song" which can be heard here.
