In an effort to inform, educate and get input, GLAAD hosts communities forums that pertain to media issues concerning LGBT communities of color.

In 2001, GLAAD hosted two community forums on the intersections of race, class, gender and sexual orientation in hip hop. The first, entitled Homie-sexual Hip Hop, was held at the GLAAD offices in New York on February 20, 2001. The second, entitled We Don't Love Deez Hoes: Race, Sex, Sexuality and the Hip Hop Closet, was done in association with SMAAC Youth Center and was held in Oakland, CA on May 29, 2001. In 2002, GLAAD hosted a media symposium in partnership with the Latin Pride Foundation and the City of Los Angeles to talk about defamation in Spanish language and Latino media. Held in the Tom Bradley room of Los Angeles City Hall on July 31, the symposium featured a panel of media professionals and activists moderated by Gabriel Romero (Los Beltran) as well as interaction with GLAAD staff.
