Books

Bertein, Robin and Silberman, Seth Clark. Generation Q. Alyson Publications, Inc., 1991.
An anthology of essays written by gays, lesbians and bisexuals born around 1969's Stonewall riots. It is a unique look at the generation who came of age during the beginning of the AIDS crisis. It also examines the "joy, visibility, power, astonishingly strong support networks and previously unimaginable freedoms" that people of this generation have access to.

Bisexual Anthology Collective, Ed., Plural Desires: Writing Bisexual Women's Realities, Sister Vision, 1995.
This collection offers a basket of mixed fruit: essays, first-person narratives, interviews, sexual fiction, cartoons and poetry. From diverse cultural and national backgrounds, it interrogates the ways in which bisexuality intersects with differences of race, ethnicity, age and disability.

Brown, Rita Mae. Rubyfruit Jungle. Daughters, Inc., 1973.
This 1973 classic novel is the fictional account of a woman named Molly Bolt. It includes bisexual characters that add to the tale's irreverent, funny and wry observations of heterosexual norms that the author never quite fully understands.

Bryant, Wayne. Bisexual Characters in Film: From Anais to Zee. Haworth Press, 1997.
Explores, analyses and celebrates 80 years of bisexual movie characters from around the world, and the people who have created them.

Buxton, Amity Pierce. The Other Side of the Closet. IBS Press, 1991.
A thorough study of what happens to husbands, wives and children during the coming out process for gay, lesbian and bisexual spouses. A collection of personal stories and case studies from both the gay men, lesbians and bisexuals as well as their straight spouses and children.

Garber, Majorie. Vice Versa: Bisexuality and the Eroticism of Everyday Life. Simon & Schuster, 1995.
A clinical study of bisexuality and its relation to culture, politics and history. It includes scientific research, psychoanalysis and deductive reasoning to debunk psychomythology.

Hutchins, Loraine and Kaahumanu, Lani (eds). Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out. Alyson Publications, 1991.
A must-read for all bisexuals and anyone who knows or cares about someone who is bisexual. It is a collection of essays by bisexuals discussing their coming out (of both sides of the closet) as well as their lives.

Klein, Fritz M.D. The Bisexual Option. Haworth Press, 1993.
Includes definitions, examinations of myths surrounding bisexuals and profiles of the lives of bisexuals. There is also a brief discussion of the history of bisexuality in the arts.

Tucker, Naomi (ed). Bisexual Politics: Theories, Queries & Visions. Haworth Press, 1995.
A collection of essays relating to bisexuality and various political movements. It gives different opinions on the history of the movement, its present state and the future. It also discusses the roles of bisexuals in the gay and lesbian movement as well as the coalition between the movements.

Weiberg, Martin S.and Williams, Colin J. and Pryor, Douglass W. Dual Attraction: Understanding Bisexuality. Oxford University Press, 1994.
A fairly compressive study of bisexuality combining interviews and surveys of bisexuals, homosexual and heterosexuals. The book is unique in how it compares responses from the three groups to a follow-up study four years later.
