Dear Media Professionals,
As you may know, the GLAAD Media Awards are held annually to recognize and honor media professionals and projects in news and entertainment media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, and the issues that affect their lives. We would like to encourage you to keep track of current and upcoming newspaper articles and television news stories that cover the African American LGBT community in a fair and balanced manner. These articles and video clips can then be submitted for possible nomination to the GLAAD Media Awards.
The 16th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are currently underway (you can see this year's nominees by visiting www.glaad.org), but we are already looking for submissions for next year's event. Articles and video clips may be submitted in the following media categories: film, television, newspaper, magazine, music, comics, advertising, digital journalism and New York and Los Angeles theater. Submissions must have been published, released, premiered or broadcast between Dec. 1, 2004 and Dec. 31, 2005.

The GLAAD Media Awards are held annually on the East and West Coasts. The event recently honored Sex and the City, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Bend It Like Beckham, Hoy, Azteca América and ABC's Primetime Thursday. Past special honorees have included Ellen DeGeneres, Elizabeth Taylor, Cristina Saralegui, Rosie O'Donnell, Antonio Banderas, Diane Sawyer, Eric McCormack, Paris Barclay and Julianne Moore. The GLAAD Media Awards also honor achievements in theater, music, print media and advertising.
You can also alert us to stories or projects that you are currently working on - or will be working on in the future - so that we can keep a log of media coverage of the African American LGBT community, and nominate those entries for the GLAAD Media Awards. To contact GLAAD, you can call Mónica Taher, the People of Color Media Director, at (323) 634-2025, or e-mail her at taher@glaad.org.
Sincerely,
Mónica Taher
