A Virginia all-girls school ponders its policy on transgender students
Note from GLAAD
This piece appeared on the front page of The Roanoke Times on March 26. That in and of itself is encouraging as we typically don't see a lot of thought-provoking journalism regarding transgender people in the mainstream media of southwestern Virginia, much less on the front cover of a leading newspaper. Though the piece has some issues, reporter Matt Chittum is to be commended for his work and efforts to report this story in a manner that is fair, accurate and inclusive. GLAAD is committed to raising visibility and educating the public about the lives of transgender people. Hollins University is located in Roanoke, VA. The all-girl's college has a policy on transgender students that stands out for its attempt to define when gender transition occurs.
