This piece appeared on the front page of The Roanoke Times on March 26. That in and of itself is encouraging as we typically don't see a lot of thought-provoking journalism regarding transgender people in the mainstream media of southwestern Virginia, much less on the front cover of a leading newspaper. Though the piece has some issues, reporter Matt Chittum is to be commended for his work and efforts to report this story in a manner that is fair, accurate and inclusive. GLAAD is committed to raising visibility and educating the public about the lives of transgender people.
