San Francisco police are expanding "safe zones" within the city after an attack on a transgender woman. The police department already designated its district stations as "safe zones." These are places members of the lesbian and gay community can go for help if they are beaten or harassed. Police say some are afraid to report crimes against them because they may be undocumented or don't trust the police.
