Same-sex marriage bill set to clear final hurdle in UK House of Commons

July 16, 2013

London (CNN) -- A bill to allow same-sex marriage in England and Wales will go before the House of Commons for a final debate Tuesday, a day after the legislation cleared the House of Lords.

Lawmakers are expected to approve amendments made by the House of Lords, paving the way for the bill to gain royal assent this week.

The first same-sex weddings could then be held in England and Wales next summer.
