BOSTON — MBTA Transit Police have charged two Quincy men with assault and battery, robbery and civil rights violations for allegedly taunting and beating a man at the South Station commuter rail station on July 20.

Colin Hayes, 21, and Derek Ruiz, 28, were identified and arrested Thursday morning, and taken to Transit Police headquarters. They’re expected to be arraigned later in the day in Boston Municipal Court.

T police said the victim, who’s unidentified, reported the attack shortly before 6 a.m. on July 20. He said he was waiting for his train in the commuter rail lobby area when two men – later identified as Hayes and Ruiz – taunted him with anti-gay slurs.
