Parkland, TX policy would ban transgender discrimination
Parkland Health and Hospital System on Wednesday moved to broadened its personnel policies to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity, gender expression and genetic information. The Human Resources Committee of the Parkland Board of Managers voted 3-0 to expand the policy in a move supporters say reflects best practices and broadens recognition of individuals in the community Parkland serves. In addition to Parkland staff members, the new policy would prohibit discrimination against patients or hospital visitors based on gender identity, gender expression or genetic information. The full board will vote on the policy next month. Its initial passage comes almost nine months after a Dallas transgender woman visiting the hospital was issued a ticket for disorderly conduct for using the women's restroom.
