Chambersburg Area school board will vote Wednesday whether to approve a new Gay-Straight Alliance club for Chambersburg Area Senior High School. Students have submitted the proper paperwork and a GSA constitution, which was approved by CASHS student government. Two faculty members have agreed to serve as club advisors. "The Chambersburg Area School District recognizes the interest of students in establishing a Gay-Straight Alliance Club," said Assistant Superintendent Cathy Dusman. "Across the country, hundreds of students have started gay-straight alliances (GSAs) and similar clubs dedicated to making schools safer and more inclusive for all students. The proposed GSA has followed the same procedures as other clubs." Administration seeks approval to establish the club for grades 9 to 12. Shippensburg Area Senior High School and Waynesboro Area Senior High School also have GSA clubs. Greencastle-Antrim High School and James Buchanan High School do not. There are more than 35 clubs and groups listed on the CASHS website, ranging from Varsity Club to Drama Club and FFA.
