The jubilance of their marriage in Massachusetts soon was tinged with anger and sadness when newlyweds Nancy Katz and Margo Dichtelmiller drove home to Plymouth and reality set in. Together for nearly 40 years, the couple's legal marriage out-of-state in 2009 isn't acknowledged by the federal government or Michigan, which passed an anti-gay constitutional amendment in 2004 banning marriage equality and whose courts and Legislature have enacted further prohibitions marriage equality.
