One of Malaysia’s top politicians has warned Muslims to be wary about the spread of homosexuality following the establishment of an LGBT friendly mosque in France. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mashitah Ibrahim said homosexuality was a major transgression in Islam and what was being practiced in Europe should not be emulated in Malaysia. ‘Just because they have a mosque for homosexuals, Muslims must not sympathize with them as it is still considered a major sin,’ Ibrahim told the New Straits Times. 'They are using human rights as an excuse for them to do whatever their heart pleases but we must know what is right and wrong.’ Malaysian Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria questioned the need for a separate mosque for LGBT Muslims and condemned the establishment of the mosque. ‘I find his intention to provide a praying space for homosexual Muslims [dubious] because they are not prevented from entering mosques and praying,’ Zakaria said.
