Indiana Youth Group Loses Specialty License Plates After 20 Senators Complain

Note from GLAAD
Justin Ward, Senior Media Field Strategist at GLAADFor months now, the Indiana General Assembly has been trying to rescind a specialty license plate that benefits the Indiana Youth Group, an organization that provides support for LGBT and questioning youth. Last week, on the last day of the 2012 legislative session, lawmakers decided to table the issue, saying they would 'discuss' it during a special summer committee. Today, however, the Indiana Board of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced that as of tomorrow, IYG's specialty license plate will no longer be available for sale. At the request of 20 Indiana senators, the BMV launched an investigation as to whether IYG violated their contract. The BMV now concludes that they've done just that.
