Picking on the little kid, picking on the one with the fewest resources to defend himself is called bullying. That is exactly what the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has done at the bidding of 20 Republican senators. These senators are the big kids on the block pushing their weight around; they want to make sure the nonprofit that serves gay kids doesn’t get its license plate.

Mary Byrne is the executive director of the Indiana Youth Group (IYG), an organization that provides support services to LGBT and questioning youth. After trying for nearly four years to procure a specialty license plate, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles recently revoked IYG's plate, less than two months after it first became available for purchase.
