Fifty-two churches valued at more than $100 million are at stake in a legal battle between the Episcopal Church and its conservative Fort Worth diocese. The Fort Worth diocese split with the Episcopal Church in 2008 for its decision to consecrate a gay bishop, Gene Robinson, as well as its ordination of women. The diocese's bishop claims it owns all the local churches, while national Episcopal leaders say the churches are their property; they sued the local diocese in 2009 for the properties.
