The new Mid-America chamber aims to unite the area’s so-far-uncounted gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender-owned businesses, foster consumer loyalty within that community, and encourage trade with the broader business and customer population.

Chamber organizers say it’s time to focus public attention on the many successful businesses and talented professionals who are part of the city’s commercial fabric.

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce estimates there are more than 1.4 million LGBT-owned businesses in the United States, but there is no precise estimate for their presence in the Kansas City area.
