Jennifer Tyrell wasn't thrilled when her son said he wanted to join the Tiger Cub Scouts, the youngest division of the Boy Scouts of America. She was familiar with the organization's ban on gay members, leaders, or parents, and as a mother raising four children with her longtime partner, Tyrell worried that her son would be subjected to bullying, ostracization, and antigay rhetoric at the hands of fellow scouts, or even pack leadership.
