The school superintendent of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus has declined to reinstate a gay high-school teacher fired after she listed the name of her partner in a newspaper obituary, a lawyer said yesterday.

Physical education teacher Carla Hale was fired after being outed in her mother's obituary after 19 years of service at her Columbus Catholic school. Despite an outpouring of ally support locally and nationally, her union abandoned her in her fight for her job.
