Rep. Trey Gowdy’s Democratic challenger, Deb Morrow, closed her Twitter account after someone with access to it used it to call Gowdy a gay. Morrow quickly denied responsibility for two tweets calling the Republican congressman from Spartanburg a “homo.” She closed her “@Morrow4Congress” Twitter account and said that it had been hacked. The tweets made it to the media after Sean Bertran, a Washington, D.C.-based social media consultant with ties to South Carolina Republican groups, saw the tweets and passed them along to South Carolina news organizations. One called Gowdy a “homo” and the other said that Gowdy and South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham both are homosexual. A self-described activist, Morrow admits to not being very social media savvy.
