There will be plenty of time to talk about property taxes and jobs closer to November. But for now, Barbara Buono — struggling to get her campaign off the ground since becoming the Democrats’ de facto nominee for governor in January — has found an issue that resonates with her base, gets her in front of the cameras and could help bring in some much-needed campaign cash: Gay rights. The state senator from Middlesex County, who trailed Christie by 35 points in a March 26 poll, has made the issue the centerpiece of her campaign for the last month.
