The American Civil Liberties Union recently filed suit against Michigan Gov. Richard Snyder (R) on behalf of four Michigan public employees and their partners. The ACLU sued to stop enforcement of the state's new law prohibiting some public entities from offering health coverage to partners of employees.
Bruce Harris was sworn in Tuesday as mayor of Chatham, N.J., and became what is believed to be the first openly gay, black Republican mayor in the country. Harris said, “I have felt it is my duty to serve the community. I think that public service is interesting, and finding ways to meet the challenges facing a small community like Chatham Borough is personally rewarding.”
At the College Convention 2012, a forum organized by New England College and open to students from all over the state, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) responded to several questions about marriage for same-sex couples and attempted to defend his position against it.
Today during the annual Associated Press Legislative Preview, Washington's top Republican and Democratic senators discussed whether or not the legislature should vote on marriage for same-sex couples in the state this year.
Last October in a speech, Minnesota's Archbishop John C. Nienstedt told Minnesota's priests that any priest who does not support the proposed constitutional ban on marriage for same-sex couples should remain silent and instead should speak to the Archbishop privately.
