AIDS in the Media
media center > hiv & aids media resource guide > AIDS in the Media

When Hollywood first approached the subject of AIDS, it provided faces and stories to accompany the news media's reports of those being infected with the HIV virus at an alarming rate. According to studies conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation, media is an integral tool in spreading important messages regarding HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment, especially to youth.

As a media advocacy group, GLAAD examines portrayals of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the media. Recognizing that many in our community are living with HIV and AIDS (and that many more globally are affected), we will continue to strive for fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the impact of HIV and AIDS on the diverse LGBT community.
