GLAAD has an immediate need for a Programs and Communications Fellow in our New York office. The Programs and Communications Fellow will provide support to GLAAD's VP of Communications and GLAAD's VP of Campaigns and Programs. This opportunity is ideal for someone wanting to develop competencies in the LGBT movement. The Programs and Communications Fellow will work to track team successes, write and plan the production of key documents and manage administrative duties the Programs and Communications teams.

The fellowship is a temporary full time position 40 hours/week, and it must be completed in GLAAD's New York office during regular office hours (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

Responsibilities

  • Support the VP of Communications and VP of Campaigns and Programs and members of the team by conducting research, writing and editing documents and managing data.
  • Manage administrative tasks for the VP of Communications and VP of Campaigns and Programs including planning meetings, managing calendars, coordinating expenses and maintaining files.
  • Plan, draft, edit, and proof electronic materials including program planning updates, reports, internal communications and other documents as needed.
  • Write blog posts about campaigns and news as assigned.
  • Interface with internal and external constituencies on a project or team basis.
  • Maintain an extremely positive attitude and high degree of professionalism at all times.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, and desire to be a self-starter.
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to LGBT issues.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to copy edit and synthesize information.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in progressive and/or LGBT communities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing research and data. 
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, and email. Tech savvy candidates preferred.

Reporting

The Programs and Communications Fellow will report to the VP of Communications and VP of Campaigns and Programs and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation

$12.12 per hour
