Keith Boykin's 'For Colored Boys' Anthonlogy Inspires Gay Black Youth

The much-anticipated new anthology For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Still Not Enough will be released online Wednesday August 8 and in bookstores August 13. The collection is edited by Keith Boykin, the New York Times bestselling author and television commentator. For Colored Boys collects the writings of more than three dozen Black gay and transgender voices who are media personalities, scholars, activists and other thought leaders.

Bullied Gay Teen Becomes An Activist

Zach King says that when he goes back to high school next month, he won’t be scared.

Bullied since second grade, the openly gay 16-year-old was harassed and taunted for acting “ girly,” having long hair and being different at Unioto High School in Chillicothe.It came to a head in October when he was severely beaten in his third-period class by another student, and it was captured on video.

In the early morning hours, a group of youth gathered in Laguna Hills, California, to let people know that there are better dining options for LGBT equality then the newly opening Chick-fil-a restaurant. Youth from the Youth Empowered to Act (YETA) distributed fliers to inform potential customers of Chick-fil-a’s donations to anti-LGBT organizations and political statements. They also offered suggestions for alternatives to Chick-fil-a.

Gay Youth Plans Protest Against Chick-fil-A

A local gay and lesbian youth group is planning a protest at the new Chick-fil-A in Laguna Hills when it opens early Thursday morning, a response to the recent statements by the company’s chief executive supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
In an interview posted July 2 with Chick-fil-A CEO and President Dan Cathy, Bibilical Recorder editor K. Allan Blume wrote “some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family.”
