On Wednesday, July 15th, Ireland passed the Gender Recognition Bill, which allows all citizens over the age of 18 to self-declare their gender marker on their legal documents without any medical intervention or other type of verification required. Prior to this, people in Ireland had no way to change their legal gender.
For the past year, the magazine has been running a "Modern Life" column every month. This month the column features an interview with Jodie Patterson, the mother of Penel, her 7 year old transgender son.
On July 1st, the West Virginia DMV officially changed its license photo policy to be trans-inclusive, allowing trans individuals to be photographed as they regularly appear, without being required to alter their gender expression by doing things such as removing makeup and other items.
