GLAAD's new study of transgender images on television in the past ten years revealed that nearly half of all catalogued episodes contained negative messages and stereotypes. Additionally, transgender characters were cast as victims or villains more often than not, while anti-trans language found to be present in at least half of all episodes.
Nominations for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards were announced yesterday and voting is now open to decide the winners. Glee scored big in TV with a leading five nominations between the series and cast and Modern Family followed closely behind with four nods. Of the five actors nominated for Favorite Comedic TV Actor, four are openly gay. A wide range of LGBT-inclusive programs also picked up nominations.
The Sundance Channel , which has a strong history of diverse portrayals of LGBT people, just announced its slate of scripted series currently in development and includes T, the story of a young transgender man named Terrence who recently underwent gender reassignment surgery.
An October 29 poll conducted by The Hollywood Reporter (THR) in conjunction with Penn Schoen Berland has found that series with LGBT characters such as Glee, Modern Family and The New Normal are helping drive voters to historically unprecedented levels of support of marriage equality.
