“The Canadian Olympic Committee is setting the standard for LGBT-inclusion in sports by leveling the playing field for all athletes,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “By cementing its commitment to LGBT athletes and fans through new partnerships and critical resources, the COC is sending the message that supporting equality is the winning attitude.”
This morning, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach announced 40 recommendations that "lay out the strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement." Among the recommendations is the addition of "sexual orientation" to the IOC's non-discrimination statement.
The most important part of Spirit Day, GLAAD's annual worldwide stand against anti-LGBT bullying, is youth. This year, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) set the bar high for getting students and the folks who work with them to go purple.
To celebrate Spirit Day, today ESPN employees sported purple and took a stand against bullying. ESPN’s Employee Resource Group members and supporters of ESPN EQUAL posed in in the ESPN Digital Center in support of Spirit Day.
