Carson Kressley Dances off Dancing with the Stars but Continues to Shine in Purple for Spirit Day

Openly gay celebrity stylist, author, fashion designer, and Emmy winner, Carson Kressley, was among the fan favorites on this season of Dancing with the Stars, but he was unfortunately voted off in this week’s fifth elimination episode. All the same, the positive impact Carson’s presence has made for LGBT visibility in the media should be acknowledged and celebrated.

Students Walk Out After Two Men Kiss in Musical

Some students walked out of a production of "Zanna Don't" at Hartford Public High School on Friday when two male characters kissed during the performance. The production was produced by a joint effort between a task force created by Leadership Greater Hartford's Quest program and True Colors. One of the organizers said, “Our specific task force voted for this project because we believe in it, especially in light of national and local stories about LGBTQ issues and bullying.

Millions 'Going Purple' Against Bullying for Spirit Day on Thursday

Last fall, the nation mourned after the suicide deaths of more than a dozen young people who were LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) or perceived to be LGBT.  These tragic losses and the reports that these youth were bullied because of their sexual orientation or gender identity sparked a nationwide conversation about bullying, especially with regard to LGBT young people.  Their stories also inspired a movement toward encouragement, which included Spirit Day (10/20) and the “It Gets Better” Project.
