The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston's official newspaper, this week retracted an opinion column in which Daniel Avila wrote, "the scientific evidence of how same-sex attraction most likely may be created provides a credible basis for a spiritual explanation that indicts the devil."
GLAAD’s Director of Religion, Faith & Values, Ross Murray, published an essay in CNN’s Belief Blog about Christians’ increasing acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The essay, entitled “My Take: Why Christians are embracing their LGBT neighbors,” demonstrates the changes in both hearts and minds, as well as denominational policies, the increasing welcome, acceptance, and advocacy for and with LGBT people.
Spirit Day was celebrated October 20, and on that day, we saw numerous businesses, celebrities, denominations, and even the White House go purple to show support for LGBT youth and safe schools. However, many worshipping communities held their commemoration until they gathered for weekend services. Now that “Spirit Weekend” is over, we offer you a couple of examples of what congregations did to address bullying in worship.
