NYC transgender woman dies after attack

Islan Nettles, a New York City transgender woman, has died after an attack on the early morning hours of August 17. Ms. Nettles was taken to Harlem Hospital for her injuries and, on Thursday, was taken off of life support and died.

Santa Fe Mayoral Candidate Javier Gonzales: “accepting that you are gay is complicated”

Former state Democratic Party chair and prospective Santa Fe mayoral candidate Javier Gonzales posted in a blog today that he is gay. Gonzales came out on the website Familia es Familia, which works to “build support among Latino communities for acceptance of gay and lesbian family members,” according to the site. The headline over the post is, “My Renewed Faith in Santa Fe.”

Out NBA star Jason Collins reaches out to WWE Superstar Darren Young; other athletes tweet support

Darren Young, WWE Superstar, spoke out about being gay yesterday to TMZ while waiting for his luggage at LAX. This morning Young appeared on the Today show with Matt Lauer where we spoke about the positive reaction he has received, including advice from Jason Collins, who made history earlier this year as the first out gay active male pro athlete in one of America's major leagues.
