Evangelical Lutheran Church in America elects first openly gay bishop

In a historic move, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has elected its first-ever openly gay bishop. The Rev. Dr. Guy Erwin has been elected to a six-year term to the Southwest California Synod, which encompasses the greater Los Angeles area.
