Op-ed: Guess What - We're the Oppressors

Did you know that the LGBT community is oppressing Christians? I know, I know, you may think that the sentence should be the other way around, given 2,000 years of institutionalized homophobia, burning [queer men] at the feet of [queer women], and preaching that love is an abomination. But according to a well-coordinated, well-funded campaign, actually the gays are oppressing conservative Christians, you see, because we’re not letting them discriminate against us.

Stop trying to split gays and Muslims

I tweeted my appreciation that the LGBT community in San Francisco is standing up against [Pamela Geller's] efforts to drive a wedge between LGBT folks and Muslims. Soon after, Geller retweeted me, claiming that she in fact has “huge support in Gay community.” I realized that Geller had stopped responding to me when I requested more information to back up her assertion that she has “huge support in Gay community,” after the only evidence she provided was a link to a Facebook group with 72 members. I’ve since asked her repeatedly for more information, but have not gotten a response.

Former professional football player Kwame Harris acknowledges that he is gay on CNN Newsroom. His interview reflects the hardships faced by an NFL player who identifies as gay and begs the question of what will need to happen for an active NFL player to feel comfortable coming out. In the interview with Coy Wire, Harris discussed whether he thought about coming out in the NFL, the implications that would have entailed, and what it was like to be a closeted professional athlete.
