Why Catholics in IL Should Support Marriage Equality

Catholics and their allies contribute joyfully and faithfully to the life of the Church. We hope that our leaders will think twice before labeling us destructive, disordered, and unnatural. And we hope that they will reconsider their opposition to same-sex civil marriage, which puts them in a position of inhospitality rather than welcome. In the meantime, inspired by our Catholic faith, we are contacting our state senators to urge support of Illinois's marriage equality bill.

Priest and Mayor reflects French divide over marriage equality

As a retired Roman Catholic priest who still conducts the occasional Mass, he will bow to a church that adamantly opposes same-sex unions. But as mayor of this farming village deep in Brittany’s heartland, Geffray is willing to conduct civil marriage ceremonies for gay and lesbian couples. “I belong to two institutions, the Republic and the church, which don’t have the same laws,” he said during an interview at his tiny office in City Hall. “I will abide by both.”

Honduran gay leader appeals to U.S. for help

Jose Pepe Palacios says his mission is to inform the U.S. government and LGBT Americans that at least 89 LGBT people in Honduras, including gay rights advocates, have been murdered since military leaders ousted his country’s elected president in a 2009 coup.
