How my exclusion from speaking at my school's graduation led to healing

I wrote an open letter addressing the discrimination that I endured by not allowing me to speak at my Arkansas high school alma mater. I felt like I couldn’t keep silent any longer, and needed to let not only the superintendent, but for the wider world to know how much their actions have hurt me and my family. I never imagined my letter would spark such an outpouring of love from hundreds of complete strangers. Most amazingly I also received a surprising confession from a man who once bullied me.

New Study Shows Anti-Transgender Discrimination Hurts New York State's Economy

According to a new study published by the Williams Institute of UCLA, there are an estimated 58,000 transgender people living in New York, and half of them are still not protected under local anti-discrimination laws. This leaves New York tax payers with covering the cost of public assistance and housing for 23,800 transgender people, who face inordinate levels of homelessness and unemployment.
