A Scottish cardinal who stepped down from church leadership after admitting sexual misconduct should apologize to gay people for his years of "vicious and cruel language" about them, Britain's leading gay-rights group said Monday.
Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender investors are largely optimistic about their financial futures, but many don't realize just how much extra money same-sex couples pay because the federal government doesn't recognize gay marriage.
Cardinal Keith O’Brien, the United Kingdom’s most vocal faith opponent of marriage equality, admitted to sexual misconduct. He resigned from his post last week, amid allegations of sexual misconduct with seminary students. He has now announced that he will no longer contest the allegations.
"DOMA is an especially poor candidate for any claim of deference to the constitutional judgment of the political braches. It was enacted hastily, with little independent consideration of its constitutionality, against the backdrop of a constitutional jurisprudence this Court has since abandoned."
For some in the the Vassar College community, it was a teachable moment they hope was a spark for further discussions about gay rights and acceptance.
Four members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., came to the Town of Poughkeepsie on Thursday to protest Vassar College’s support of the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transsexual community. They were met by hundreds of Vassar College students, faculty and other community members in support for gay rights.
