LGBT groups slam immigration bill for boosting border security

A group of LGBT advocacy organizations blasted lawmakers in a joint statement to The Raw Story on Wednesday for considering emphasizing increased security along the border between the U.S. and Mexico a pre-requisite to speeding the citizenship process for undocumented immigrants already in the country.

Danielle Powell: Expelled for being gay and told to repay scholarships

In the spring semester of 2011, Grace University, a Midwest Christian college in Omaha, Nebraska decided to expel Danielle Powell, simply because she is gay. After her expulsion, Powell says she was told that she would have to repay the $6,300 of tuition for the semester she wasn't allowed to finish.

Nation’s Leading LGBT Advocacy Organizations Decry Draconian Amendments to Senate Immigration Bill

“This week, the Senate is considering several amendments to the immigration reform bill that make draconian demands for excessive and unfair enforcement provisions and border armament. This is reckless and insulting to lawmakers trying to negotiate in good faith and to everyone who is committed to providing a roadmap to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants, including 267,000 LGBT immigrants. These amendments are nothing more than poison pills that threaten the entire legislation.
